Program: Attorneys are facing scrutiny by government regulators over whether their law practices comply with the rules of professional conduct. Lawyer and their employers who run afoul of their jurisdiction’s ethics rules may find themselves facing daunting collateral consequents, including responding to ethics grievances, malpractice complaints, and disqualification orders. This one-hour session will address common ethical issues faced by attorneys and best practices for creating a practice environment that promotes compliance with ethical obligations, including conflicts of interest, ineffective communications, and complying with the duty of candor before a tribunal. Michael is an experienced counselor, advocate and expert witness in the field of Intellectual Property Law. He is focused on the representation of patent and trademark attorneys, registered patent agents, IP and General Practice law firms, corporate counsel, and federal government employees involving legal ethics matters and disciplinary proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in state and federal court proceedings. He has represented hundreds of patent and trademark practitioners in confidential ethics investigations or disciplinary proceedings brought by the USPTO Office of Enrollment and Discipline. Decades of Intellectual Property and commercial litigation experience for multi-national corporate clients in patent and trademark related cases before federal courts in many jurisdictions. Mr. McCabe is a nationally-recognized speaker on legal ethics and regulatory compliance, particularly relating to Intellectual Property law.
