In the global marketplace, the imperative to safeguard and strategically manage brands transcends national boundaries.  "Brands without Borders" offers a unique opportunity to explore brand protection and management through the lens of international expertise.  Join us as four IP attorneys from Nigeria, Argentina, Switzerland and China deliver insights into the multifaceted challenges of brand security and value from their unique perspectives.

Participants will benefit from a deep dive into the critical aspects of brand protection, including trademark, copyright, and anti-counterfeiting measures, tailored to the specific needs and legal frameworks of different regions.  The session aims to equip business leaders, brand managers, and intellectual property professionals with advanced strategies for maintaining brand integrity and value on a global scale.

Simona Baselgia, Associate, Attorney at Law, LL.M., Lenz and Staehelin

Simona Baselgia is an associate at the Zurich office, where she is a member of the Intellectual Property, Litigation and Arbitration, and Technology and Outsourcing groups. Her practice focuses on IP, technology, media and telecoms law, and commercial litigation in general. Simona represents clients in litigation before Swiss courts and in administrative matters before governmental authoritiesHer education includes BLaw and MLaw from University of Zurich, and LL.M. from King's College London.  She is a member of the Zurich and Swiss Bar Associations.


 
Daniel Goytia, Managing Partner, Goytia & Associates

Daniel has been a licensed attorney since 1970, holding degrees from Davidson College and the University of La Plata in Argentina. With a commitment to innovation, Daniel has pushed Goytia & Associates to new heights every year. Based in the key countries of Latam, he has built a global network that allows clients to efficiently manage numerous filings and cases through a single centralized agent, safe in the knowledge that their needs will be met to the highest standards with local offices in strategic locations around the globe.  His practice areas include: Patents, trademarks, and designs: prosecution and maintenance, Licensing, litigation, and legal advice.   He is also the Founder of “One Heart” NGO since 1990.


He Jing, Managing Partner, Gen Law Firm

Mr. He has more than 20 years’ experience in handling IP litigation, antitrust, policy advocacy and compliance matters. He started his legal career as a patent attorney in Silicon Valley and spent about 9 years in a major international law firm before developing his private practice in China. He successfully guided clients on many complex China legal matters, including FRAND rate setting for standard essential patents, injunctive relief in chemical patent litigations, live sports broadcast, bad faith trademark litigations, major licensing transactions in semiconductor and wireless communications. Major industrial associations often consult with Mr. He on China legal and policy matters. Mr. He was selected as Recommended Intellectual Property Lawyer by Chambers Asia-Pacific, Legal 500, Who’s Who Legal, WTR 1000, Benchmark Litigation, ALB, Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars, IAM Patent 1000, IAM Strategy 300 and Global Leaders, and the Client Choice Awards by Lexology.

Mr. He is passionate about making policy changes and contributing to legal environment in China. He was the key consultant conducting a U.S.-China Intellectual Property Dialogue where top U.S. and China experts convene and deliver roadmap documents for China intellectual property reforms. He also leads the policy programs as the executive director of Beijing Zhongguancun (ZGC) Intellectual Property Strategy Research Institute.

Mr. He has been actively contributing leadership in education and legal professions and is also involved in multiple charity programs related to environment, rural education and art. Mr. He is the appointed advisor for LL.M program at Peking University School of IP. Mr. He is Secretary General of Sports IP Committee of China IP Law Society. Mr. He’s specialty also relates to cross-border technology licensing and policy consulting in sustainable development fields.His education includes J.D., University of Notre Dame, B.Sc. in Physics, Peking University and L.L.B., Peking University. He is the Executive director, Zhongguancun Intellectual Property Strategy Research Institute and Advisor for LL.M program at Peking University School of IP.


Uche Nwokocha, Partner, Aluko & Oveboke 

Uche heads the Intellectual property department of the firm and advises local and international clients on the full range of brand-related matters. She was ranked as a Band 1 lawyer in Nigeria for her exceptional work in the field of Intellectual Property by Chambers and Partners Global Guide for 2023, an outstanding Intellectual Property practitioner in the elite WIPR 2022. Featured by Legal Business Africa as one of 20 Outstanding Nigerian Women in Business Law for 2021 and recognised as a leading patent and trademark practitioner. Listed among the 11 individual rankings across 5 main practice areas by Chambers Global for Nigeria for 2021. Ranked in 2020 and 2024 by World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000, recognized in Who's Who Legal in 2014 and 2020 as a global expert in intellectual property, Top 250 Women in IP worldwide for 2020 by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), named “IP Star” (2016-2022) and Trademark Star (2019-2023) by WIPR.

She served as a board member of INTA from 2018-2020. She was nominated by US mission in Nigeria as a panellist for World Anti-Counterfeiting Day 2021. She currently serves as a board member at GACG and the Secretary of (ACC) Nigeria. She was chair for the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia subcommittee of INTA's ACC. Uche is a Harvard alumni and joined the firm in 2003 and was admitted to partnership in 2008. Uche continues to bring value to brands that she represents.
