Doug Crisman, Partner, Morgan Lewis LinkedIn Doug brings the perspective of a software designer and intellectual property (IP) director for a leading computer hardware company to his patent law practice, which includes patent preparation, licensing, and prelitigation opinions, as well as IP transactions, due diligence, and counseling. A co-leader of the IP Open Source Software Working Group, Doug routinely works with standards-setting bodies and consortia on IP issues, and provides advice on strategic IP management and open source legal issues ranging from software development to code review and licensing.

Duane Valz, Former VP and General Counsel, Insitro LinkedIn
Duane has led the legal and IP functions at prominent Silicon Valley companies operating at a variety of scales and growth stages. He has been broadly recognized over the past 10 years as one of the world’s leading IP strategists. Duane is currently VP & General Counsel of Insitro, a venture-backed company applying machine learning and automation to disease target identification and new drug development. Prior to Insitro, he was VP & General Counsel of Zymergen Inc., a molecular technology growth company operating at the intersection of biology, chemistry, automation and machine learning. Duane was previously a senior member of the Patent Team at Google, where he led strategic IP initiatives bearing on mobile, cloud, web and open source technologies. He was also previously Associate General Counsel in charge of patent development at Yahoo! Duane began his career at Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin (now combined with Arnold & Porter LLP). Duane serves on the Board of Directors for SMASH.org, is an advisory board member for UCOP’s MESA program, and is on the advisory Board for the National Society of Black Physicists — all organizations focused on supporting underrepresented students in the pursuit of education and careers in STEM fields.

Chitra Kalyanaram, Moderator, Senior Patent Counsel, Johnson & Johnson LinkedIn Chitra is Senior Patent Counsel in Johnson & Johnson’s Digital Health Technology group, providing intellectual property counseling and deal support for high-tech computing projects across J&J’s various healthcare sectors. Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, Chitra spent 12 years in private practice in San Francisco and Washington DC, working with a variety of technologies, including artificial intelligence, autonomous aviation, computer vision, image processing, medical devices, and the Internet of Things. She has a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
