Description:

The Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) credential in intellectual property licensing and commercialization is a valuable career asset. This certification indicates to clients, colleagues and potential employers that you have advanced experience and qualifications in key identified subject areas. This course will provide you with a high-level overview of the major performance domains and content that you may see in your CLP exam so that you feel more prepared to take the certification exam. Applicants are strongly encouraged to fully prepare for taking the exam. Instructors

Mihaela Bojin, Ph.D., CLP, Senior Associate Director, University of Iowa Research Foundation

Mihaela Bojin is a Senior Associate Director at the University of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF).  She has extensive expertise in intellectual capital management (licensing, business and intellectual property assessment, partnerships) in a variety of areas, such as pharmaceuticals, drug delivery, medical devices, and software.

Mihaela is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) and a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Since 2020, she has been included in the IAM Strategy 300, an elite global group of IP strategists.

Prior to joining UIRF, Mihaela was a patent agent at a New York City Intellectual Property Practice Group, an assistant professor on tenure track at the City University of New York, and a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Davis, and at New York University.  Mihaela holds a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from Cornell University, and a BSc in Chemistry from University of Bucharest, Romania.

Ian DiBernardo, Partner & Chair, Brown Rudnick LLP-IP Litigation Practice Group

Ian DiBernardo is a partner and chair of Brown Rudnick LLP’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group. He is also co-practice group leader of the U.S. Technology group. His dual leadership roles reflect his decades of experience counseling owners and investors throughout the entire lifecycle of IP.

Ian counsels IP owners in creating, monetizing, asserting, and defending their IP assets, and investors in sourcing, evaluating, and executing on various IP-centric investments.

Ian has structured and negotiated a range of intellectual property and technology transactions, including patent, know-how, copyright, and trademark licenses, and outsourcing, cloud computing, supply, distribution, and joint development agreements. He has represented clients in a broad range of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, joint ventures, and corporate finance transactions.

Gillian M. Fenton, Esq., CLP, Special Counsel, GSK 

Gillian M. Fenton, Esq., CLP has been a member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES, USA & Canada) since 1992, and served as the society President in 2020-2021.  Gillian’s contributions to LES and to the field of licensing were recognized with the society’s Frank Barnes Award in October 2022 and with listing in the IAM 300 in October 2023.  She presently serves as U.S. Counsel to LESI and is a member of the LES USA & Canada Public Policy Committee and Course Chair for IP Licensing Basics.

Gillian is the founder and executive director of LST Strategies LLC, a solo law practice dedicated to life science transactions.  For the prior 8 years, she was GSK Vaccines Special Counsel for Innovation and Government Collaborations.  At GSK, she supported a wide variety of business development transactions, R&D collaborations and U.S. Government Contracts including agreements with NIH/NIAID, BARDA, DARPA, CARB-X and NIIMBL.  Before joining GSK, Gillian was VP, Associate General Counsel & Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Emergent BioSolutions Inc., where she founded the IP department and supported all IP aspects of the company’s IPO and subsequent 9 years of growth through M&A in the vaccines, biodefense, and global health fields.  Gillian also spent over ten years in private practice at law firms in Boston, MA and Washington, DC.

Graham Rogers, CLP, Partner, Eisner Advisory Group LLC

Graham Rogers is a Principal in the Forensic, Litigation, and Valuation Services. His professional career spans more than 30 years. For more than 20 of these years, Graham has been assisting clients with their intellectual property needs. He has been retained as an expert to determine economic damages in a variety of litigation matters including patent infringement, trademark infringement, theft of trade secrets, and copyright infringement disputes.  Graham has testified in several federal jurisdictions as well as various state courts.

Prior to joining EisnerAmper, Graham operated his own firm, for more than nine years. Prior to that, Graham held senior leadership positions at national and regional accounting firms. While at these firms, Graham assisted clients with their litigation support and valuation needs. His prior experience has provided him the practical foundation (economic modeling, discovery assistance, financial statement review and industry/market research) required to successfully handle expert witness needs, valuation matters, and intellectual asset management needs.

Jeffrey S. Whittle, CLP, Partner, Womble Bond Dickinson

Jeff Whittle provides nearly 30 years of legal experience to clients in the energy and high-tech industries. He advises on strategic and complex technology merger & acquisition transactions, licensing, patent, trademark, and copyright protection, intellectual property portfolio analysis, and various other contentious and transactional matters, including inter partes reexaminations, post-grant reviews, and derivation proceedings, among other disputed cases. Jeffrey is Head of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Global Energy and Natural Resources Industry Sector and serves as Managing Partner of the firm’s Houston office.

Jeffrey is the past president and chair of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) for the USA and Canada (2015-2016) and served on the LES Board for over seven years. He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Americas Committee for Licensing Executives Society International (LESI). He is the past Chair of the Certified License Professionals (CLP) (2022), a licensing certifying professional society. Jeffrey is a frequent and highly sought-after speaker and author, nationally and internationally, on various intellectual property/licensing/technology topics.
