RatnerPrestia Shareholder Brian P. O’Shaughnessy Elected President of LES (USA & Canada)

VANCOUVER, October 26, 2016 – RatnerPrestia Shareholder Brian P. O’Shaughnessy has been elected President and Chairman of the Board of the Licensing Executives Society (USA & Canada), Inc. (LES).  The election was held at the Society’s Business Meeting of the LES Annual Meeting, Vancouver, B.C., October 24, 2016.  His one-year term commences at the close of the Annual Meeting, October 26th.  
 
Brian has served on the LES Board of Trustees since 2007, and on its Executive Committee since 2011. Brian has previously served as LES Regional Vice President, U.S.A., where he was responsible for the Society’s public policy work, addressing matters before the legislative, judicial, and executive branches.  In other leadership roles, Brian has served as Trustee for Education, Trustee for Committees, LES 2013 Annual Meeting Committee Chair, and on the LES IP100 Planning Committee.

He is a long-standing and active contributor to LES Education, and has been an author and instructor for the LES Professional Development Series since 2002.  Brian is co-creator and instructor of the LES “CLP Exam Review Course.”  He has regularly represented LES as a lecturer on IP and licensing at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Global Intellectual Property Academy, and at the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, International Trade Administration, Special American Business Internship Training Program (SABIT).  For LES International (LESI), he has served as an International Delegate since 2005; Co-chair of the LESI Education Committee (2014), and Vice-chair of the LESI Life Sciences Committee (2015-2016).  In addition to his efforts on behalf of LES, Brian writes and speaks, domestically and internationally, on developments in intellectual property law and licensing.  

Brian is a registered U.S. patent attorney with nearly thirty years’ experience in intellectual property law.  He is resident in RatnerPrestia’s Washington, DC office, where he counsels innovation-oriented enterprises in maximizing value from intellectual property, especially through procurement and global portfolio management, licensing, enforcement, and post-grant proceedings before the USPTO. 

Brian holds BS and MS degrees from the Department of Chemistry, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY.  Brian now serves on RIT’s Board of Trustees, is a member of the Board’s Executive Committee, and Chairs its Student Life Committee. He is a Past President of the RIT Alumni Association.  In 2013, Brian was honored as RIT’s Outstanding Alumnus in recognition of his professional accomplishments and his service and generosity to the university.  He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University College of Law in 1986.
