Licensing Between the U.S. and China: Navigating the Shoals hosted by the DC ChapterWednesday, May 21, 2025 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Eastern 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Central 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Mountain 10:00 am - 11:00 am Pacific Program: With the current administration rearranging international relations, China is a key issue with many risks and many issues in play. One issue is FRAND in China - in particular, how FRAND has been mistranslated by the courts and how counsel should exercise greater oversight. There are also issues on bilateral science cooperation - where the U.S. recently renewed the bilateral Science and Technology Agreement with China. Additional issues revolve around the future of private and public science and technology cooperation with China, where the current administration is expected to cancel the agreement. These and other issues will be discussed. Speakers: | Mark Cohen, Research Fellow, Asia Society Chinese-speaking Intellectual property and commercial attorney with over 25 years experience in emerging markets. Former US government and US Embassy (Beijing) official, former Fulbright Professor (Republic of Slovenia). Extensive experience in management of patent portfolios, IP enforcement campaigns, government and media relations, international trade matters (including WTO issues), and public policy efforts, including antitrust advice. Educated thousands of leading Chinese public and private sector officials on IP matters, and have lectured before business and academic audiences throughout the world. I have also served as an expert witness on intellectual property matters involving Chinese companies. Specialties: Intellectual property practice and policy, international trade, Chinese law, intellectual property and innovation strategy, licensing, anticounterfeiting and antipiracy. |
