Integrating Intellectual Property and Licensing Strategy
Dean Woodward, Assistant General Counsel for IP and Licensing at RTI International, was the featured speaker at the Licensing Executives Society’s September 20th luncheon hosted by its RTP Chapter.
Woodward discussed the role intellectual property (IP) plays in the support of business strategy. He emphasized the importance of linking intellectual property to industry value and highlighted methods of extracting IP value from patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets to develop a unique and adaptable IP strategy.
Woodward advised that sustainable businesses must develop a strong and integrated IP position to maintain their competitive advantage. While this can be costly and time consuming, Woodward reiterated that the benefit of protecting business value far outweighs the cost.
