LES 2017 Spring Meeting

Intellectual Property Business Executives to Gather in Washington, D.C. Next Week for the LES 2017 Spring Meeting

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2017 - The Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and Canada), Inc. (LES) is honored to host the Spring Meeting in the heart of the Nation’s Capital—Tuesday, May 9th through Thursday, May 11th at the Willard InterContinental Hotel.

On Tuesday, May 9— LES (USA & Canada) will greet attendees and special guests from around the world with a special Welcome Reception at the Embassy of Canada. Guests will enjoy local Canadian cocktail tastings and hors d'oeuvres with opening remarks from LES Chair and President, Brian P. O’Shaughnessy and special greetings from new CEO Kim Chotkowski.  There will also be comments from the host, Embassy of Canada on the State of IP in Canada to round out the evening.  

The Opening Plenary on Wednesday, May 10— will provide an informative and engaging discussion on Legislation and How it Affects IP Owners. Panelists from Bloomberg, Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the Intel Corporation, Franklin Square Group, American Continental Group and J.C. Penney Corporation will discuss what reforms are needed and how they affect licensing.  Wednesday’s Luncheon Keynote Speaker, the Honorable F. Scott Kieff, Commissioner, United States International Trade Commission, will review the state of intellectual property policy in the US and overseas, including a perspective on trade and competition issues and what this means for the economics of licensing.

In addition to the various networking opportunities, Thursday’s sessions include a prestigious judiciary panel including Former ITC Chair, Deanna Tanner Okun, Partner, Adduci Mastriani & Schaumberg LLP and the Honorable Faith Hochberg, United States District Judge (retired) who will discuss How the Judiciary is Affecting IP Policy - From Setting Policy to Dealing with Policy.  

As always, join us before and after the Formal Meeting to attend our premier educational courses. Starting on Monday, May 8th, LES will be hold the 2-day Best Practices in IP Licensing course, Tuesday, May 9th, IP Business Basics 101 and Friday, May 12th, Certified Licensing Professional Exam Review. 

Finally, the LES Foundation 2017 International Business Plan Competition will culminate in a final round of deliberations on Monday, May 8th. Over 80 teams from around the world registered for this years’ competition, showcasing the brightest new business and product plans. Stay tuned to learn about the winner!
