LES University North is excited to be coming back to Chicago September 24–28. The law firm of Brinks Gilson & Lione is graciously hosting us once again at their Offices in Downtown Chicago, on the 36th Floor of NBC Tower! With what we have planned, we are expecting this to be one of our best conferences in recent memory. In Chicago, LES University North will be putting on two courses. These courses are ideal choices for anyone looking to bolster their career in IP/IC/IAM or seeking MCLE/CLE credits. If you ever have any questions about a course, whether it is the right fit for you or what you might expect to glean from the course, feel free to reach out to us at any time! We are always eager to help members with their professional development needs. Simply email us at education@les.org, or you can email me directly at mkeagle@les.org.
The first course offered in Chicago: IP Business Basics 101 (September 24)
Are you new to the field of intellectual property (IP) or licensing and their strategic connection to business? This highly interactive one-day course teaches you about the various forms of IP and how they can be leveraged to support the primary function of any business—making money! The basics of identifying, valuing, and transacting IP are presented, and key concepts driven home by review and analysis of real-world licensing agreements in small, hands-on group exercises. Finish the day trying your hand at negotiating your own license agreement from a case study. This class is taught by engaging, energetic instructors who will demonstrate key concepts with LES's signature IP Improv.
Our second course is an Advanced Course: IP Licensing for Business Development (September 25—28)
For licensing professionals with three-plus years of experience, this course is designed to help take your career to the next level. Explore how to drive business development through licensing in this three-day course featuring modules on: identifying legal issues in the procurement, enforcement and transacting of IP and the associated licensing contract provisions; building a robust and actionable Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Strategy; a full-day Deep Dive on IP Valuation; a mock licensing negotiation putting these concepts into practice; and an engaging and fun interactive presentation on dealing with ethical issues related to IP.
After LES University North leaves Chicago, we prepare for the Annual Meeting in Boston, October 13–18. LES Education is proud to once again kick off and close out our Annual Meeting! While in Boston, LES Education will be offering three more education courses:
Negotiation Skills (October 13–14)
Negotiating is both an art and a science—which is to say how successful we are at negotiating depends on our practice of a developed skill set. But, there is much that can be learned to complement our personality traits and maximize our ability to negotiate well. With some learned techniques and practice, anyone can negotiate fair and reasonable agreements that benefit both parties without fear of being disadvantaged. Have you thought about the knowledge and skills needed to negotiate well? Consider hearing from experts about:
- Principles of Negotiating
- Interests vs. Positions
- Tactics
- Elements of Power, Leverage and Personality
- People Problems
- Preparing the Negotiation
- Team Structure
- Overcoming Uncertainty
- A Positive Roadmap to Negotiating
Attending Negotiations Skills, which includes a six-hour case study, allows you to be better prepared to negotiate your next agreement. Come see how you can improve your negotiating skills at the Annual Meeting in Boston!
The second course at the Annual Meeting will be another offering of IP Business Basics 101 (October 14).
And lastly we end the Annual Meeting with a CLP Review Course (October 18)
This one-day review course and CLP Knowledge Community access helps professionals prepare for the CLP exam. Taught by experienced CLP-certified LES members, the emphasis of the course is on the eight CLP domains, the practice exam questions and the participants' results. Of those who have taken this review course and the exam, 80 percent passed. Earning the CLP credentials establishes credibility among your colleagues, shows that you understand and utilize the latest industry practices, recognizes your experience and qualifications, and demonstrates your commitment to professional development.
