The push for more transparency at the US Patent Office, and other offices worldwide, has made prosecution data and other patent applicant data-points more available to public scrutiny than ever before. These data, combined with advanced analytics software and computer hardware able to manipulate these large datasets, have begun to elucidate trends in patent prosecution that (when combined with in-house data and the proper assumption frameworks) may give IP practitioners insights that can help create better IP and save filers money. This presentation will provide a brief overview of new patent analytics tools, some concrete examples of patent office data analyzed to produce cost saving decision-points during application prosecution, and where the field of IP analytics is moving into the future.
