The objective of this workshop is to introduce the audience to the term "intellectual capital," to explain how it is different from "intellectual property," to describe some of the disciplines, methods, and tools used to manage intellectual capital, and finally to explore how to deploy these disciplines, methods, and tools throughout an operating company. Understanding this area is important, since between 60% and 90% of most companies' future value is made up of intellectual capital, even in cases in which the strength and dependability of its legal protections may be low and in cases (which are most of the cases) in which the value contributed by the legal protections may be a small fraction of the overall intellectual capital value.
