LES Webinar: Hot Topic Tuesday - Metaverse and Intellectual Property: The New Frontiers of Web 3.0
The metaverse is not a new concept, but the interest for this “new” universe seems to have reached a new peak with recent announcements about the launch of new metaverse projects. Through an interconnected global space, the metaverse (as a contraction of meta-universe) proposes a new Internet composed of persistent and shared virtual spaces accessible through 3D tools (virtual, mixed or augmented reality) in which users would be actors and creators in their own right. This Web 3.0 obviously raises many questions, including in terms of intellectual property. This presentation will cover topics ranging from trademark protection and enforcement in the metaverse, to copyright on virtual creations. The speakers will try to give answers to questions such as: Should all companies have a virtual presence in the Metaverse? If so, how should it be done? In case of IP infringement in the Metaverse, which jurisdiction should hear the case? Join us for this exciting ride into the new frontiers of the metaverse and Web 3.0.
