Secondary market is where investors buy and sell assets that they already own. Wikipedia defines it as market for used goods or assets, or an alternative use for an existing product or asset. This talk will focus on patents as the assets and although value can be realized in multiple ways (licensing, trading, swapping, pooling and litigating), the thrust of this presentation will be buying and selling patents. The panelists representing different industries, High-Tech, Life Sciences and Consumer Products, will present their perspectives on monetizing patents in the secondary market within their industries particularly as it relates to buying/selling patents, present industry risks and rewards (perceived or real), valuation approaches applied, common channels used, examples of some major deals, and any specific do's and don'ts for such a transaction.
