Posted By Administrator, Wednesday, April 12, 2017

On April 6th, the Vancouver Chapter held a lunch event to discuss the franchise law changes implemented in British Columbia on February 1, 2017.  Tony Wilson Q.C., a franchise lawyer in Vancouver, explained to whom the new Act applies, the timing and content of disclosure obligations of franchisors, the right of rescission, traps for lawyers practicing franchise law, and the governing law and the forum for all franchise disputes.  Chapter Chair, Gina Lupino, thanked Tony for sharing his knowledge and expertise.  "He provided practical tips for navigating the legal minefield of BC franchise law.  It was very informative."

Top Ten Court Decisions of 2016

Posted By Administrator, Friday, January 27, 2017
Updated: Wednesday, March 29, 2017

The LES Vancouver Chapter was thrilled to welcome Russell Levine back to Vancouver for an “encore” presentation of the “Top 10 Court Decisions of 2016 Affecting Licensing” talk that he recently presented at the 2016 LES Annual Meeting in Vancouver.

Once again, Russell identified and discussed important U.S. court decisions of the past year affecting licensing.  He also addressed the potential implications of those decisions on the drafting and negotiating of patent license agreements.

"Russell’s annual talk is always enjoyable and insightful, and this year was no exception," says Vancouver Past-Chair, Hilton Sue. "Russell engaged the crowd and started an interesting interactive discussion regarding whether Canadian courts might decide the same issues in the same or different way as their U.S. counterparts."

This engaging presentation and lunch event was highly popular and well attended.  The Vancouver Chapter is hoping Russell will return to Vancouver for a similar talk next year.
